The axe head weighs 5 lbs. and has a bit length of 4 ¾ inches from toe-to-heel. The overall head length from bit-to-poll measures 7 3/8 inches. The wedge-shaped blade has a high centerline, which helps prevent it from sticking during the splitting process.

The 25-degree convex bevels on the bit adhere to ANSI Standards, which call for a bit hardness of Rockwell C 45-60, at least half an inch back from the cutting edge. The 36-inch straight hickory handle has been dried to a moisture content below 10% to minimize shrinkage and prevent the head from loosening over time. During assembly, approximately 1/2 inch of the overall handle length is removed.

The axe head is hydraulically seated onto the handle and proudly displayed with a traditional wood and steel wedge. This design allows the axe to serve as a faller's axe, with chamfered poll corners and radius corners around the outer poll face, preventing excessive damage when driving HDPE plastic felling wedges.
