The Council of Trent [1545-1563] was convened in response to the Protestant Reformation. During the sessions of this council, the council fathers clarified and developed key statements and expounded Catholic doctrine, teachings, and practices. The council ordered the publication of the Catechism of the Council of Trent (also known as the Roman Catechism) in Latin, which was then issued and approved by Pope St Pius V in 1566. This catechism became the official manual of popular instruction originally intended for priests. Since then, various popes, bishops, and synods have encouraged and urged the use of this catechism. The catechism provides a fixed and stable plan of instruction to the faithful and follows the Council’s dogmatic definitions in the Apostle’s Creed, the Sacraments, the Ten Commandments, and the Lord’s Prayer.
Due to the catechism's importance, PCP, Inc. decided to reprint the Fathers Callan & McHugh’s 1923 translation of this work in order to disseminate its teachings to a wider audience of people seeking to understand the official position of the Church on dogmatic and moral questions. Our edition is printed with real ink on acid-free paper and has an attractive green hardback binding with sewn signatures to prevent the pages from falling out. It is durably made for many readings and study. Our edition contains 603 pages and has the product number 5428.
