The 2 lbs. Hudson Bay Axe is one of the axes that has recently undergone a design upgrade. This new 'old-school' design features a taller eye, allowing for a more secure and stable connection to the handle. The larger poll, balanced head, and wedge-shaped blade make this axe a safer, more ergonomic, and efficient tool for use in the woods, at camp, on the homestead, while trapping, or within the tree service industry.

The blade's geometry has more of a wedge shape, but still maintains a high centerline, making it a better splitting axe for campfire wood. The head's weight is similar to the previous design, but it is now balanced for better control and more accurate strike placements, especially when used one-handed. This improved balance enhances the axe's safety and ease of use.

An additional feature of this new design is the extended, hardened poll (the back of the axe head). This allows the poll to be used as a hammer when needed, adding to the axe's versatility. Highlighting this added benefit of a hardened poll will help promote the axe and draw industry-wide attention, as Council Tool would be producing one of the only Hudson Bay axes on the market with this design feature.

The inspiration for this new 'old-school' axe head pattern came from the design details found in some of the older and vintage Hudson Bay axes, which were widely used in the first half of the 1900s and remain highly collectible today.

Regarding the axe's specifications, it has a 2 lbs. head weight, a 3 5/8" bit length from toe-to-heel, and a 6" overall head length from bit-to-poll. The balanced head design, with the center of mass within the eye, reduces head-roll and blade-drop. The longer, hardened poll and taller eyewall provide a more secure handle connection, while also creating a larger poll face/surface area that can be used as an effective striking tool and to drive HDPE plastic felling/bucking wedges.

The axe features 25-degree convex bevels/bit and a wedge-shaped blade with a high centerline, which helps release the axe head while splitting. This new 'old-school' Hudson Bay Axe is made in the USA and powered by manual operation.
