Council Tool 2.0 Lb Hudson Bay Camp Axe with Leather Sheath

The Hudson Bay pattern is believed to have originated in the Biscayan area of Northern Spain and was first used in North America as a trading piece along the fur trade routes. In this Velvicut, we have taken a traditional Hudson Bay pattern and added some length to the poll to improve the tool’s balance. The axe head is drop forged, rough ground in a state-of-the-art robotic work cell, and then hand sharpened by an experienced artisan using increasingly fine abrasives and leather stropping. The Hudson Bay pattern has a very short eye length relative to other patterns, which can lead to looseness due to reduced contact area between the head and handle. The new design creates more contact area and bite between the head to handle joint, resulting in a stronger and more durable tool. The axe features a 2 lb head, 24 inch curved hickory handle, and is forged from 5160 grade alloy steel. The bit is heat treated and quenched approximately 1 inch from the cutting edge, then tempered for maximum edge holding and toughness, with a final hardness of Rc 52-56. The axe head is coated with light oil to prevent rusting and showcase exceptional Council Tool craftsmanship. Additionally, a premium leather sheath is included to protect the tool and user, featuring a buckle for fastening, a belt slit, and an embossed logo.
